Regional Manager/Nursing Supervisor (Victoria/Vancouver Island)

Job Summary:

Coordinates and manages nursing support services for children with complex care needs, who receive care in their homes, schools, and/or in their community.  Hires, supervises, directs and schedules all health care providers of nurses (RN, RPN and LPN) and the further delegation of duties to non nurse care providers.  Promotes the well being of the children and families receiving serve.  Schedules a health care team of nurses (RN and LPN) and unlicensed care providers.  Promotes and upholds the rights of the children we serve and honors their choices.

Reports to: Program Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. To act as the key contact with the various NSS Coordinators in the health region, the child, family and other healthcare providers; work collaboratively and maintain open communication through all stages of service delivery. Schedule and/or attend meetings to discuss relevant service issues.  Travel as required.
  2. Development of a child’s health care plans based upon the child’s determined health care needs and associated risks. Provide ongoing assessment and monitoring (including site visits) of the child’s care and well being. Establish and maintain proper documentation to ensure comprehensive, safe and appropriate care is being provided.
  3. Manages a caseload of children with a variety of medical needs within program and agency’s policy and procedures. Participates in the recruitment and selection of direct care providers assigned to children.  Evaluate employees’ need for orientation, training and ongoing education. Co-ordinates and facilitates direct care provider training and orientation to care.
  4. Hires health care providers (RN, LPN, NNC) for the program. Conducts annual employee performance evaluations.  Assesses employee skills and knowledge to ensure they meet agency and professional / program standards and requirements.
  5. Responsible to coordinate schedules of the direct care providers to maximize and fill the child’s home, school and child care hours. Maintain regular communication with the direct care providers to ensure proper monitoring and continuity of care.
  6. Provide guidance and support to children and their families and /or caregivers in health care including details of home care. Maintain relationships.  In consultation with the NSS Coordinator, resolve concerns and issues that arise from service delivery.
  7. Prepare and submit documentation in accordance with established procedures and as requested.
  8. Participates in the agency’s continuous quality improvement process.
  9. Uses sound judgement; carries out job duties in a professional manner and is guided at all times by the agency’s Code of Ethics.
  10. Perform other related duties as requested.

 

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized School of Nursing
  2. 3 years of acute clinical experience working with children with complex care needs.  Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
  3. Excellent clinical skills working in a community setting
  4. Self-directed with leadership and supervisory ability working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  5. Demonstrated ability to use professional judgment in decision making
  6. Demonstrated ability in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills in English
  7. Able to meet the applicable Ministry legislation and guidelines

Employment Requirements:

  1. Current registration with BCCNP as a practicing registered nurse
  2. Valid BC driver’s license and a drivers abstract showing fewer than 4 tickets that carry penalty points in previous 2 years and no motor vehicle related Criminal Code of Canada conviction in the previous 3 years
  3. Vehicle with business use insurance
  4. Valid First Aid and CPR certificates
  5. Valid, current and clear Criminal Record Check through the Solicitor General BC
  6. Current negative Mantoux (TB) test
  7. Good general health and physically able to perform the duties of the job (Doctor’s certification required 5 days prior to commencement of employment)
  8. Must sign the Agency’s Statement of Confidentiality and Acknowledgement of Agency Abuse Policy
