Required Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized School of Nursing

Other Requirements:

  • 3 years of acute clinical experience working with children with complex care needs.  Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
  • Excellent clinical skills working in a community setting
  • Self-directed with leadership and supervisory ability working in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to use professional judgment in decision making
  • Demonstrated ability in written, oral and interpersonal communication skills in English
  • Able to meet the applicable Ministry legislation and guidelines
  • Current registration with BCCNP as a practicing registered nurse
  • Valid BC driver's licence and a drivers abstract showing fewer than 4 tickets that carry penalty points in previous 2 years and no motor vehicle related Criminal Code of Canada conviction in the previous 3 years
  • Vehicle with business use insurance
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificates
  • Current negative Mantoux (TB) test
  • Good general health and physically able to perform the duties of the job (Doctor's certification required 5 days prior to commencement of employment)
  • Must sign the agency's Statement of Confidentiality and Acknowledgement of Agency Abuse Policy

Job Description

Job Summary: 

Coordinates and manages nursing support services for children with complex care needs, who receive care in their homes, schools, and/or in their community.  Supervises and schedules all health care providers of nurses (RN, LPN).  Promotes the well being of the children and families receiving care.

Reports to:

Regional Program Manager

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Development of child’s health care plans based upon the child’s determined health care needs and associated risks.  Establish and maintain proper documentation to ensure comprehensive, safe and appropriate care is being provided.
  2. Participates in the recruitment and selection of direct care providers assigned to children in conjunction with the Regional Program Manager.  Assists with the evaluation for the employees’ need for orientation, training and ongoing education.  Assists with the coordination and facilitation of the direct care provider training and orientation to care.
  3. Responsible to coordinate schedules of the direct care providers to maximize and fill the child’s home and school hours.  Maintain regular communication with the direct care providers to ensure proper monitoring and continuity of care.
  4. Participates in the agency’s continuous quality improvement process.
  5. Uses sound judgement; carries out job duties in a professional manner and is guided at all times by the agency’s Code of Ethics.
  6. Perform other duties as requested.

Qualifications
